Google Maps Layer Toolbar
The Google Maps Layer Toolbar allows you to display Google's vast quantity of Street and Satellite data directly in ArcMap. When you turn the layer on, it will automatically retrieve and display the relevant imagery for the current extent of your map. Every time you pan/zoom, the new layer will snap the extent to the best map scale and then display the imagery for that area.
Usage Caveats and Restrictions
- It requires a valid Google Premier or Enterprise License for commercial use.
- It requires that the map's projection match that of the original Google data (Sperical Mercator). The layer will automatically switch the projection when you turn it on.
- Unlike Arc2Earth's Map Tile Layer toolbar, the individual tiles are not downloaded and cached so you can only use the functionality while you are connected to the Internet
- You cannot remove or edit the Google logo or the copyright information from the map
Using the Google Maps Layer
- On the ArcMap Toolbars menu, turn on Arc2Earth - Google Maps Layer
- The first button will toggle the visibility of the layer. When you first turn it on, it will prompt you to change the Map Projection and then add the layer to the bottom of the TOC
- Use the dropdowns to change the Google Maps types (Streets, Satellite, Hybrid, Terrain) and the map level (3-21). If you use ArcMap's normal zooming/panning tools, the map scale of the extent will be automatically calculated and the level dropdown will be updated
